Jazz Mainstreams
Jazz Mainstreams is a weekly half-hour program showcasing important musicians and recordings. We celebrate the many "streams" that make up American jazz: from ragtime, New Orleans and swing to bebop and beyond.
Airs
Friday at 2:30 p.m. Reairs Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

George Moore
The show began as "Great Jazz Albums" on October 1, 2004--the first week KDRT was on the air. I did 62 shows until February 24, 2006. Then Pete came along and we expanded it to "Jazz Mainstreams."
I draw on my collection, going back over 60 years, and include the likes of Lu Watters, Mahalia Jackson, Big Joe Turner, Jimmie Witherspoon, Lord Buckley, Junior Mance, Gene Harris, Stan Kenton, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band , Tom Kubis and Jessica Williams.
The choices reflect my taste for older styles and blues-oriented
artists. In our current paddling up and down the Jazz
Mainstreams, they still do.
As of Jan 4, 2008, I'm doing Jazz Mainstreams by myself, co-host
Pete Basofin having done his farewell show. I will play more music
along Pete's lines and I'll also present encores of some of his
shows.
I would be very glad to hear from anyone who would like to alternate
weeks with me as a new co-host. Call or e-mail KDRT and leave your name
and phone number. It's a lot of fun, really.
Pete Basofin
I'm a professional librarian who became intensely interested in jazz several years ago after watching the Ken Burns "Jazz" series. Since then I've taken up the tenor saxophone and am a student in the Davis Community Jazz Band. I tend to feature post-war jazz styles (Bebop, Hard Bop and Cool) in my segments. I also do shows on Sacramento-connected modern jazz artists.
