KDRT Goes Live!

After almost four years in the making, Davis Community Television (DCTV) officially launched KDRT 101.5 FM with a gala party in its back parking lot on Sept. 24, 2004!

Not only did we kick off Davis' own low-power radio station, we did so with a community block party.  And,  in  doing so, DCTV became the first public access center in the nation to launch an LPFM station!

We'd like to thank the businesses and individuals who generously donated goods and services to the launch party and/or raffle: Alphabet Moon Toys & Treasures; Armadillo Records; Baskin Robbins--Covell Blvd.; Baskin Robbins–Downtown Davis; Cantina del Cabo; Davis Farmer's Market; Davis Food Coop; Anne B. Evans; Hoes Down Festival/Full Belly Farm; Java California –Dixon; Myra Jennings & Andrea Jones; Natural Food Works; PACE Solano-Parkway; Rowe Family Farm; Safeway–Marketplace; Samira's; Randy Schuster, Davis Ju-Do Kai; Terra Firma Farm; The Avid Reader; The Screaming Squeegee; Trader Joe's; and Watermelon Music. Their support was invaluable!

We thank Bob Dunning for his stint as intrepid host for the evening, and Mayor Ruth Asmundson for "flipping the switch" that officially launched KDRT. Thanks to Mayor Pro Tem Sue Greenwald, who not only cut, but served the cake.

Thanks to Greg Wershing and the City of Davis for the loan of the stage.

We offer huge thanks to the musicians who selflessly shared their music throughout our inaugural program: Heidi Bekebrede; the Mad Cow String Band; Bill Cavins & the TuTone Shoes; Bill Scholer & the Ol' Pine Trio; Howard Kelley & the Old-Time Fiddlers; and Benjamin Lewis.

Many, many volunteers contributed to making this event a success and each deserves tremendous accolades. We extend special thanks to Anne B. Evans and her group from PACE Solano-Parkway for their work soliciting and collecting raffle donations and distributing event flyers throughout town. Other stand-out volunteers include Morgan Flores, Amy Kasameyer, Heather Mullen, Nick Mariano, Karl Mogul, and Jim and Diane Buchanan.

We would be remiss if we did not mention KDRT's Founding Donors, each of whom contributed $101.50 or more to help found this station.

Finally, none of this would have been possible without the efforts of the KDRT Working Group, whose ranks include: Jeff Shaw, chair; Poppy Davis, Nix Glass, Lamar Heystek, Dallas Kassing, Autumn Labbe-Renault, Kari Peterson, Esther Polito, jesikah maria ross, Bill Smith, and Sakura Saunders.
